Our CFI [Certified Flight Instructor] is here to teach you to become the best pilot possible and not just to build time for his own aviation career. He will tailor your syllabus to fit your needs and will go as quickly or as slowly as you would like.

Why a tailwheel airplane?

We believe that learning to fly in a tailwheel airplane will produce better pilots.

Aren't you supposed to learn in a Cessna? Actually No, a Cessna is just the most common trainer.

Once you complete your training in "Vickie" you will be qualified for everthing your Cessna pilot friend is, plus more. There is a reason the FAA requires a tailwheel endorsement and not one for a Cessna. You will be able to transition to a Cessna within an hour or two if you want to.

AT This Time We Are Not Accepting New Private Pilot Students

Private Pilot Requirements

-Be at least 17 years of age

-Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language

-Obtain at least a third-class medical certificate

-Receive a minimum of 40 hours of flight time including training and solo flight

-Pass a knowledge test as well as a practical test

Is it expensive?

Depending on who you ask,the national average to become a Private Pilot ranges from $10,000 to $15,000.

At Vine Grove Airport we try to keep the cost as low as possible and save you money.

7ECA $148.40 per hour (Wet*)

Flight Instructor $50.00 per hour

*Wet means including fuel when purchased at Vine Grove Airport

*Fuel purchased at other locations will be credited up to $4.00 per gallon.

* A fuel surcharge will be added to the hourly rate if fuel is above $6.00 per gallon.
